This magnificent estate, features an endless array of Americana!
There is a remarkable Grist Mill, having operated as recently as 2007,
under the dedicated and watchful eye of Floyd D. Harwood.
The mill was constructed on Big Creek by Hezekiah Mann in 1810.
Mr. Mann was a skilled carpenter and Mill Wright.
Mr. Harwood purchased the Mill in 1972, and worked tirelessly for years restoring the mill from foundation to roof.
Mr. Harwood completed a new dam on Big Creek in April 1977, having poured 287 cubic yards of concrete.
After 5 years of exhausting work, on June 4, 1977, the Mill Pond was full, and the flume was attached.
Mr. Harwood, with his family and numerous onlookers, witnessed the rebirth of the mill.
Mr. Harwood pulled the internal lever, allowing the water to flow.
Cheers came up from the crowd as goose bumps covered Mr. Harwood’s arms.
After a 75 year rest, the massive wheels, along with countless gears and huge grind stones, were once again turning.
Mr. Harwood accomplished, what many said, was impossible.
He had completed the mammoth mill restoration.
For most men, that would have been enough. Not so!
Mr. Harwood began operating the mill along with a gift and combination antique/stove shop,
a huge antique farm machinery museum, an operating Cider Mill,
plus stocking and maintaining a large library building.
You are about to view a truly, “one of a kind” property.
An authentic part of American Folklore, a magnificent collection of Americana.
Our hats are off, in honor of Floyd D. Harwood,
for his relentless pursuit, and dedication to making a very worthwhile dream come true.
Bravo!!!
In keeping with Mr. Harwood’s dream, and dedication to the area’s history,
the family has decided to sell the farm along with thousands of books, vintage newspapers,
reference manuals, magazines, display cases, a large number of antique farm machines,
an impressive collection of antique wood stoves, hundreds of collectables,
early period horse drawn carriages, numerous old sleighs, china hutches,
an antique sewing loom, seveal spinning wheels, old milk cans, dishware,
old bee hives, old rugs, toys, old wood cabinets,
tables, beds, and much, much more. The contents are huge in number.
Mr. Harwood operated his Grist Mill, Cider Mill, Library,
Gift Shop and Equipment Museum on weekends, and weekdays by appointment.
He was open from late spring through October. Everyone was welcome!
He especially enjoyed school groups, and history buffs.
